Transcript from What Helps Search Engines Get Your Brand? – Kalicube Knowledge Nuggets
Jason Barnard: The machine will do whatever it wants unless you help it to understand what you want it to do. And you can only get it to cooperate if you’re convincing enough. So you need to convince it to listen to you about you. And it takes time and it takes effort and it’s like a child, you need to nurture it over time.
And another thing is a lot of people come to me and say, well, my solution is Wikipedia, or my solution is geeky schema markup, which a lot of people believe is the secret sauce, but it isn’t.
These two things Wikipedia, Wikidata, schema markup, or just building a personal website and thinking that’s enough. Those are the big pitfalls that people fall into. None of them are enough. All of them will help, but none of them are enough. So you do need. But you don’t. In fact, you don’t need schema markup.
Schema markup’s the geeky thing that a geek will come in and say, oh, we’ve got to write you the schema markup. It’s going to cost you a fortune. You don’t. You need to be clear on your webpage, link out to the corroboration, link back from the corroboration to your web page, Job done.
