Suzanne Culberg: And anyway I sent an email, I was like, I met you at network. And anyway she was, but the, it hadn’t caught up yet. So her digital footprint was still her previous business.

Jason Barnard: And it may, it may never catch up if she doesn’t sort it out herself because it will remain confused. And that’s the foundation, is to organize that information in a way that makes sense and that focuses the machine’s mind on what you want today. So in my case it was organize everything about me,
including the blue dog. Make sure Google understands that I am Indeed, the blue dog. But also, I do all of this stuff, and the blue dog is no longer the primary focus of what I’m doing. My audience is not looking for me as a cartoon blue dog. My audience is looking for me as a digital marketer, so please present that.

So my, if you search my name, Jason Barnard, you will see entrepreneur, digital marketer, the future of search, managing your personal brand online. Oh, and by the way, he was a blue dog in a cartoon and he used to be a folk punk, double bass player. It says it. It understands that that’s me, and it puts it on the page
and it’s fun and interesting and delightful. But naturally, what it would do would be to assume that the person who wrote the Fundamentals of Brand SERP for Business book is an author called Jason Barnard.
There’s another guy who’s an entrepreneur. There’s another guy who was a cartoon blogger, another guy who was a double bass player, another guy who was a script writer.

We’re all like that, all human beings like that. We’re multifaceted. How on earth does Google understand that this isn’t seven or eight different people? The only way is for you to give it that entity home, that point of reconciliation that explains that it’s all the same person with multiple assets.
