So I got this “80% Rule.” If I know 80% of some subject… (I have no idea where I got that mark.) If I know a good amount of some subject, I’m very happy. And I could then focus in on that. That extra 20%, is the hard bit where people go and specialize, but actually as a generalist, you need to know a bit of everything. And especially with your big digital estate, you want to be in the middle there, running your website for yourself or your company, etc., and understanding what goes on.

You want to be the conduit between different teams in your organization so that things happen. So when somebody comes to you “Bung this out on the website”, you can say, “Yeah but what about social media? Have they got any of this? Are there any images”? And it needs to be all pulled together… And that’s where the webmasters really can do a great job.
